Preview: Holy Cross Looks to Sweep Season Series at Lafayette EASTON, Pa. (Interstat) — The Holy Cross women’s basketball team aims to solidify its position in the Patriot League standings when it visits Lafayette on Wednesday night at Kirby Sports Center. The Crusaders (16-9) enter on a two-game winning streak after a 49-40 defensive victory over Loyola Maryland on Saturday. They handily defeated the Leopards (9-16) 70-48 in Worcester just over a month ago, on Jan. 17. Holy Cross is led by standout guard Meg Cahalan, who is averaging 16.3 points over her last eight games. She scored 20 points with five rebounds and four assists in the recent win over Loyola Maryland. Her consistent scoring punch has been central to the Crusaders’ success. Lafayette, meanwhile, is looking to build momentum from a 73-59 home win over Lehigh on Saturday that snapped a four-game skid. Guard Talia Zurinskas led the way in that victory with 19 points and four assists. She has been a primary facilitator for the Leopards, dishing out 42 assists in her last eight contests. The matchup features a stark contrast in recent trajectories. Holy Cross has won seven of its last nine games, while Lafayette has managed just two wins in that same span. The Crusaders’ defense has been a key factor, holding opponents under 50 points in three of their last five victories. For the Leopards to reverse January’s result, they will need a strong performance from Zurinskas and forward Teresa Kiewiet, who added 17 points and six rebounds against Lehigh. Containing Cahalan will be a defensive priority. Wednesday’s game is the second of three straight at home for Lafayette. Holy Cross continues a two-game road swing before returning home to face Bucknell on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
