NEW YORK (Interstat) â The Georgetown Hoyas look to snap a five-game skid and salvage a regular-season split when they visit the Saint Johnâs Red Storm in a Big East womenâs basketball matchup Wednesday night at Carnesecca Arena. Georgetown (12-13, 3-9 Big East) enters on a downturn, having lost its last five contests. The most recent was a 59-54 home loss to Providence on Saturday. The Hoyasâ last win was a 65-52 victory at Xavier on Jan. 24. Saint Johnâs (20-8, 8-5), meanwhile, is positioning itself for postseason play, having won four of its last five. The Red Storm are coming off a 58-47 road win at Butler on Saturday. The teams met just over a month ago in Washington, D.C., with Georgetown securing a decisive 59-34 victory on Jan. 13. The Hoyas will aim to replicate that defensive performance, while the Red Storm seek revenge on their home floor. A key matchup will feature Georgetownâs Brianna Scott against Saint Johnâs Daniela Abies. Scott is coming off a strong performance in the loss to Providence, scoring 17 points and grabbing eight rebounds. She had 21 points and eight rebounds in the Jan. 24 win over Xavier. Abies provides a consistent interior presence for the Red Storm, posting a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds against Providence on Jan. 31 and pulling down 12 rebounds in the recent win over Butler. Georgetownâs offense has struggled during its losing streak, failing to reach 65 points in any of the five games. Saint Johnâs has found more consistent success, averaging 66.2 points in its last five outings. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. EST tip-off at Carnesecca Arena on the campus of St. Johnâs University in Queens.
