Preview: Denver at Missouri-Kansas City Women’s Basketball KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to halt lengthy slides will meet Wednesday when the Denver Pioneers visit the Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos in a Summit League women’s basketball matchup at Municipal Auditorium. Both squads enter on significant losing streaks. Denver (9-17, 3-8 Summit) has dropped five consecutive games since a Jan. 24 victory over Oral Roberts. Missouri-Kansas City (7-19, 2-9) has lost three straight and five of its last six. The Pioneers will look to replicate their result from the first meeting this season, a 64-54 home win over the Kangaroos on Jan. 21. Denver guard Laia Monclova led all scorers in that contest with 13 points. Monclova is coming off a strong performance in Saturday’s 76-55 loss at Oral Roberts, where she posted 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists in 30 minutes. Over her last eight games, the junior is averaging 8.6 points and 4.4 rebounds. UMKC will counter with forward Elauni Bennett, who is averaging 7.0 points and 7.0 rebounds over her last three outings. She recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in a Feb. 7 loss to North Dakota. In the January loss to Denver, Bennett was limited to two points in 20 minutes. Denver’s recent struggles have been marked by offensive inconsistency, failing to reach 60 points in four of their five straight losses. The Kangaroos, meanwhile, are coming off a 93-40 road defeat to first-place South Dakota State where they shot just 23.2% from the field. The game is part of a tight race in the lower half of the Summit League standings as the regular season enters its final weeks. Denver currently sits in seventh place, while UMKC is in eighth. Following this contest, Denver will host South Dakota State on Saturday. UMKC will remain home to face Oral Roberts the same day. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST Wednesday at Municipal Auditorium.
