Preview: Connecticut at Villanova in Key Big East Women’s Basketball Clash BRYN MAWR, Pa. (Interstat) — The top-ranked and undefeated Connecticut Huskies put their perfect record on the line Wednesday night in a Big East women’s basketball rematch against the Villanova Wildcats at The Pavilion. UConn (27-0, 16-0 Big East), the nation’s unanimous team, has dominated its conference schedule, winning games by an average margin of 41.2 points. The Huskies arrive following a 71-56 road win at Marquette on Saturday, their 19th victory this season by 30 or more points. Villanova (21-5, 12-4), seeking to bolster its NCAA tournament resume, enters on a six-game winning streak, most recently a 74-64 victory at Creighton. The Wildcats will need a historic performance to challenge the Huskies, who won the first meeting this season 99-50 in Storrs on Jan. 15. A key matchup will feature UConn’s high-powered offense against Villanova’s disciplined system. The Huskies are led by guard Azzi Fudd, who is averaging 22.3 points over her last six games, including a 25-point performance against Marquette. She is supported by a deep roster featuring Sarah Strong and KK Arnold. Villanova counters with forward Denae Carter, who posted 16 points and eight rebounds in the win over Creighton. Guard Jasmine Bascoe, who had 21 points and seven assists in that game, provides additional scoring punch. For Villanova, the task is monumental. No opponent has come within single digits of UConn this season, and the Huskies have not trailed in the second half since November. The Wildcats will rely on ball control and perimeter shooting to try and disrupt UConn’s rhythm. A Villanova upset would shake the national landscape and represent one of the most significant wins in program history. For UConn, it is another step toward a perfect regular season and the top overall seed in the NCAA tournament. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
