WASHINGTON (Interstat) β Two Patriot League womenβs basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Wednesday when American hosts Bucknell at Bender Arena. The matchup features programs with a combined 14-35 overall record this season. Bucknell (8-16) enters with a slight edge in the standings and confidence from a 58-45 victory over American just two weeks ago in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. The visiting Bison have struggled recently, dropping their last two games by an average of 18.5 points. They fell 68-54 to Boston University on Saturday. Bucknell will look to junior forward Mariah Hardy, who is coming off a 10-point, six-rebound performance in that loss. In the Feb. 4 win over American, Hardy contributed nine points and a block in 22 minutes. American (6-19) has lost five straight, most recently an 86-56 defeat at Army on Saturday. The Eagles have found wins scarce, with their last victory a 70-60 decision at Lafayette on Jan. 31. Guard Laura Nogues has been a consistent presence, logging 27 minutes and dishing four assists in the loss to Army. Both teams have faced offensive challenges. Bucknell has been held under 50 points in three of its last five games, while American has conceded 79 or more points in three of its last four outings. The game could hinge on which team establishes control inside. Bucknell outrebounded American 45-34 in their first meeting, a key factor in the 13-point victory. Following this contest, Bucknell travels to face Holy Cross on Saturday. American will remain at home to host Lafayette on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday at Bender Arena on the campus of American University.
