SAN MARCOS, Texas (Interstat) ā A surging Arkansas State looks to right itself after a rare stumble when it visits a struggling Texas State squad in a Sun Belt Conference womenās basketball matchup Wednesday. The Red Wolves (20-7) arrive at Strahan Coliseum having dropped three straight, including a 54-62 loss at Marshall on Saturday. Despite the recent skid, they remain among the conferenceās top teams. The Bobcats (11-14) have lost four of their last five, most recently falling 77-86 at Southern Mississippi. Arkansas State will lean on guard Zyion Shannon, who is coming off a 17-point, 7-rebound performance against Marshall. Over her last seven games, Shannon has averaged 11.1 points. Her backcourt counterpart, Texas Stateās Saniya Burks, presents the primary scoring threat for the hosts. Burks is averaging 17.3 points over her last four contests, including a 22-point outing at Southern Miss. The Red Wolvesā defense, which held opponents under 70 points in five of their last six wins, will be tested by Burks. Arkansas Stateās offense, which eclipsed 78 points in three of its recent victories, seeks to rediscover its rhythm after being held to 60 and 54 points in its last two defeats. Texas State, which has alternated wins and losses over its past eight games, aims to protect its home floor. The Bobcats are 7-5 at Strahan Coliseum this season. Arkansas State holds a commanding edge in the season series, having won the first meeting 81-71 on Jan. 17. Tipoff is set for Wednesday night. The teams are scheduled for a rematch in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on Feb. 27.
