Preview: South Florida Bulls at Rice Owls HOUSTON (Interstat) — A surging Rice team looks to continue its dominant season when it hosts a South Florida squad seeking a statement road win in an American Athletic Conference women’s basketball matchup Tuesday night at Tudor Fieldhouse. The No. 21-ranked Owls (21-3, 11-1 AAC) enter on a nine-game winning streak and sit atop the conference standings. Their last loss came on Jan. 10. Rice’s defense has been stifling, holding opponents to an average of 56.2 points during the streak, including a commanding 80-42 victory over Wichita State last Friday. Senior guard Dominique Ennis has been a consistent offensive force for Rice, scoring in double figures in six of her last seven games. She dropped 26 points in a win at Tulsa last month and posted 18 points in just 27 minutes against Wichita State. The South Florida Bulls (16-10, 7-5) arrive in Houston having won three of their last four, most recently a 69-63 road victory at Texas-San Antonio on Saturday. Their success has been fueled by the hot hand of junior guard Katie Davidson, who is averaging 16.7 points over her last three games. Davidson scored 22 points in a win over Tulsa and 17 in the victory at UTSA. Rice won the season’s first meeting 70-68 in Tampa on Dec. 30, a result the Bulls will look to avenge. In that contest, the Owls edged out South Florida in a tight fourth quarter. The matchup pits Rice’s elite defense against a South Florida offense that has scored 69 or more points in four of its last five outings. Containing Davidson will be a key focus for the Owls, while the Bulls must find a way to solve a Rice defense that has not allowed more than 68 points since January. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST. Rice travels to East Carolina next, while South Florida hosts Florida Atlantic on Saturday.
