Preview: Tulane Green Wave at Memphis Tigers MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to halt lengthy slides will meet Tuesday when the Tulane Green Wave visit the Memphis Tigers in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball game. Both teams enter with identical 1-10 records in American Athletic Conference play. Tulane (8-15 overall) has lost five straight games, while Memphis (8-16) is riding a six-game losing streak. The matchup represents one of the final opportunities for either squad to build momentum before the conference tournament. The Green Wave are coming off a narrow 65-61 home loss to East Carolina on Feb. 10, a game in which guard Mecailin Marshall erupted for a career-high 34 points. Marshall’s scoring has been volatile, however, as she was held to single digits in the four games preceding that outburst. Her performance will be critical for a Tulane offense that has struggled, failing to reach 55 points in three of its last five contests. Memphis fell 61-58 to Charlotte last Saturday, its third consecutive loss by six points or fewer. The Tigers have been led by the consistent all-around play of guard Daejah Richmond, who is averaging 15.8 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists over her last four games. She posted 21 points, three rebounds and two blocks in the loss to Charlotte. Defensive execution may decide this contest. Tulane has shown an ability to keep games low-scoring, with three of its last five losses decided by three points or fewer. Memphis has been competitive lately but has faltered in closing out tight games. This is the first of a quick home-and-home series between the teams, who will meet again in New Orleans on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CST at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
