CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Interstat) — A tight American Athletic Conference rematch is set for Tuesday when the Charlotte 49ers host the Temple Owls in women’s basketball at Halton Arena. The teams met just over three weeks ago in Philadelphia, with Temple (10-14, 4-9 AAC) escaping with an 83-82 home victory on Jan. 24. Charlotte (12-13, 6-7) will look to avenge that narrow loss and improve its conference standing. The 49ers enter with momentum from a 61-58 road win at Memphis on Saturday, their third victory in four games. A key to their recent success has been the interior dominance of forward Asianae Nicholson. She recorded double-doubles in two of her last three outings, including a 17-rebound, 10-point performance against Memphis. For the season, she is averaging a near double-double. Temple seeks to halt a three-game skid, most recently a 79-73 home loss to East Carolina. Guard Savannah Curry has been a bright spot, coming off an 18-point, 8-rebound effort in that contest. She was also instrumental in the first matchup against Charlotte, contributing six points in the one-point win. Both teams have struggled for consistency this season but remain tightly matched, as evidenced by their earlier meeting. Charlotte holds a slight edge in the standings and will have home-court advantage, while Temple aims to replicate its prior success against the 49ers and sweep the season series. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tipoff. Charlotte’s next game is at home against North Texas on Saturday. Temple hosts Memphis on Sunday.
