TUCSON, Ariz. (Interstat) — A surging Colorado team visits a struggling Arizona squad in a Big 12 women’s basketball matchup Tuesday night at McKale Center. The Colorado Buffaloes (18-8) have won seven of their last nine games and are coming off a dominant 76-46 victory over BYU on Saturday. The Arizona Wildcats (11-14), meanwhile, have lost five of their last six, including a 75-69 overtime defeat to rival Arizona State their last time out. The teams met earlier this season in Boulder, with Colorado securing a 75-56 win on Dec. 31. Colorado’s recent success has been fueled by balanced scoring and strong defense. In the win over BYU, Anaëlle Dutat posted a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, Desiree Wooten added 16 points and seven assists, and Jade Masogayo contributed 15 points and eight rebounds. Dutat, a player to watch, is averaging 12.4 points and 5.4 rebounds over her last five games. Arizona will rely heavily on guard Lani Cornfield, who is coming off a 40-minute, 24-point performance in the overtime loss to Arizona State. Cornfield has been a consistent offensive force, scoring 19 or more points in four of her last seven contests. Sumayah Sugapong, who scored 23 points against ASU, and Tanyuel Welch (16 points, eight rebounds) provide additional scoring options. The Buffaloes have found ways to win close games, including an 80-79 victory over TCU and an overtime win at Kansas this month. Arizona has struggled to close, with four of its last six losses coming by single digits. Tuesday’s game tips off at 7 p.m. MST. Colorado visits Texas Tech next on Saturday. Arizona travels to Baylor on Saturday.
