Preview: Illinois-Chicago at Murray State Womenās Basketball MURRAY, Ky. (Interstat) ā A surging Murray State squad will look to continue its dominant season when it hosts Illinois-Chicago in a womenās NCAA Division I basketball game Sunday at the CFSB Center. The Racers (21-3) enter as one of the nationās hottest teams, having won 10 of their last 11 games. Their offense has been explosive, most notably in a 114-78 rout of Indiana State on Feb. 5. Murray Stateās success is fueled by guard Halli Poock, who is averaging 24.3 points over her last six contests. She dropped 33 points and dished eight assists in the win over the Sycamores. Illinois-Chicago (11-12) arrives seeking consistency after alternating wins and losses in its last six games. The Flames are coming off a 68-65 home victory over Evansville on Feb. 7. They will lean on forward Julia Coleman, who recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds in that win. Coleman has been a steady force, scoring in double figures in seven straight games, including two 20-point performances. The matchup presents a stark contrast in season trajectories. Murray State has established itself as a conference powerhouse, with its only loss since Dec. 31 coming at Northern Iowa on Jan. 23. The Racersā high-octane attack will test a Flames defense that has allowed an average of 65.2 points per game this season. For UIC, containing Poock and the Racersā transition game will be paramount. The Flames will need another strong performance from Coleman and efficient guard play from Jessica Carrothers, who added 18 points against Evansville, to challenge on the road. This is the first of two scheduled meetings between the teams this season. They are set to meet again in Chicago on March 5. Sundayās tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. CST.
