Preview
BOSTON (Interstat) â The Stony Brook Seawolves look to complete a regular-season sweep and continue their push in the Coastal Athletic Association standings when they visit the struggling Northeastern Huskies on Sunday at Matthews Arena. Stony Brook (13-10) enters with momentum, having won three straight and four of its last five games. The Seawolves defeated Northeastern 64-55 just over a week ago on Feb. 6, keyed by a balanced scoring effort. Guard Sandra Frau-Garcia, the teamâs floor general, tallied 12 points and five assists in that victory. Over her last five games, Frau-Garcia is averaging 8.0 points and 5.6 assists, including a near triple-double of 10 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in a win over Towson on Jan. 18. Northeastern (6-15) seeks to halt a four-game skid and avenge the recent loss. The Huskies have struggled to find consistent offense, failing to reach 60 points in six of their last seven contests. Guard Yirsy QuĂ©liz has been a bright spot, leading the team with 16 points in a loss at Towson last Sunday and scoring 13 against Stony Brook earlier this month. She averages 9.5 points per game over her last six outings. The Huskies will need more production beyond QuĂ©liz to challenge a Stony Brook defense that has held opponents to 55 points or fewer in three of its last five wins. Northeasternâs last victory was a narrow 62-60 road win at Hofstra on Jan. 18. Sundayâs contest is the backend of a quick home-and-home series. Following this game, Stony Brook continues its conference schedule at home against UNC Wilmington on Feb. 20. Northeastern hits the road for its next two, beginning at North Carolina A&T on Feb. 20. Tipoff is set for Sunday afternoon in Boston.
