LEXINGTON, Ky. (Interstat) ā A pivotal Southeastern Conference womenās basketball clash is set for Sunday at Rupp Arena as the Kentucky Wildcats host the Mississippi Rebels in a matchup with major postseason implications. Both teams enter on the heels of dominant home victories. Mississippi (20-5, 8-4 SEC) routed Arkansas 80-57 on Thursday behind 21 points from Cotie McMahon and 17 points and five blocks from standout forward Latasha Lattimore. Kentucky (19-7, 7-5) handled Texas A&M 75-55, fueled by 19 points and eight assists from point guard Tonie Morgan. The contest features a compelling contrast in strengths. The Rebels, boasting one of the nationās top defenses, have held opponents to 60 points or fewer in 14 games this season. Lattimore has been a defensive anchor, averaging over three blocks per game in her last six outings. Her offensive production has been steady, scoring in double figures in five of those games. Kentuckyās engine is Morgan, who orchestrates one of the SECās most efficient offenses. She has dished out eight or more assists in four of her last seven games, including a 12-assist performance against Georgia. Her ability to penetrate and create will be tested by Mississippiās formidable interior defense. The Wildcats have struggled in close conference games, with four of their five SEC losses coming by four points or fewer, including a heartbreaking 84-83 overtime loss to Vanderbilt on Feb. 5. Mississippi has been more clinical in tight situations but suffered a narrow 64-63 loss at Alabama on Feb. 5. With the SEC tournament approaching, both teams are jockeying for seeding. A win would solidify Mississippiās hold on a top-four conference standing, while Kentucky seeks a resume-boosting victory to enhance its NCAA tournament positioning. The Rebels have won three straight in the series, including a 77-62 victory in Oxford last season. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST Sunday. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
