Preview: Minnesota Visits Wisconsin in Big Ten Women’s Basketball Clash MADISON, Wis. (Interstat) — The surging Minnesota Golden Gophers, winners of seven straight, travel to face the struggling Wisconsin Badgers in a Big Ten Conference women’s basketball rematch Sunday at Kohl Center. Minnesota (19-6, 11-3 Big Ten) enters with formidable momentum, having dominated the first meeting 88-53 in Minneapolis on Jan. 25. The Golden Gophers are coming off an 84-67 victory over Nebraska on Thursday, powered by 21 points from guard Amaya Battle. Battle has been instrumental during the winning streak, averaging 15.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists over the last seven games. Her backcourt mate, Mara Braun, added 15 points against Nebraska. Wisconsin (13-12, 5-9) seeks to halt a four-game skid, most recently a 92-60 loss at Illinois on Wednesday. The Badgers have struggled defensively, allowing an average of 84.5 points during their losing streak. Freshman forward Dorja Iva Zaja provided a bright spot against Illinois with a team-high 16 points in 19 minutes, a significant increase from her recent role. Her development will be key for a Badgers team looking for consistency beyond leading scorer Serah Williams. The Badgers will need a much stronger defensive effort to contain a balanced Minnesota attack that shot 50.8% in the January rout. Wisconsin’s home record of 9-5 offers some hope, but they face a Gophers squad playing its best basketball of the season. This game is the second of a tough three-game homestand for Wisconsin, which hosts Iowa on March 1. Minnesota continues its push for a high seed in the conference tournament, with a quick turnaround to host Ohio State on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. CST Sunday.
