FAIRFAX, Va. (Interstat) ā A marquee Atlantic 10 womenās basketball showdown is set for Saturday when the surging Rhode Island Rams visit the George Mason Patriots at EagleBank Arena. The Rams (22-2, 12-0 A-10) enter on a 12-game winning streak and are the conferenceās last unbeaten in league play. They are coming off a dominant 85-42 victory over VCU on Wednesday, showcasing a deep and balanced attack. Ines Debroise led the way with 15 points, six rebounds and four assists in just 24 minutes. The guard has been a consistent catalyst, averaging 9.9 points and 3.6 assists over her last seven contests. George Mason (16-7, 8-4) presents one of the sternest remaining tests on Rhode Islandās schedule. The Patriots are riding high after an impressive 72-61 road win at Dayton on Wednesday, powered by a season-high 20 points from guard Jada Brown. Her scoring outburst provided a needed boost after a quiet four-point performance in a loss to Richmond on Feb. 7. The matchup pits Rhode Islandās stifling defense, which has held eight of its last ten opponents under 55 points, against a George Mason team that has found its footing offensively in conference play. The Patriots have won six of their last eight, with their only losses in that span coming to Richmond and Dayton. Rhode Island won the seasonās first meeting 70-58 in Kingston on Jan. 3, but that contest was before George Mason hit its current stride. The Patriots will need another big performance from Brown and forward Zahirah Walton, who added 16 points in the Dayton win, to protect their home court and hand the Rams their first conference loss. Saturdayās Valentineās Day clash could have significant implications for the Atlantic 10 regular-season title race and postseason seeding. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST.
