Preview: New Orleans Privateers at Houston Christian Huskies HOUSTON (Interstat) — Two Southland Conference women’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Saturday when the Houston Christian Huskies host the New Orleans Privateers at Sharp Gymnasium. The matchup features struggling squads, with Houston Christian (6-17) holding a slight edge in the standings over New Orleans (3-21). Both teams are coming off losses in their most recent outings. The Huskies fell 59-43 to Nicholls State on Thursday, while the Privateers dropped a 71-53 decision to Texas-Rio Grande Valley on Feb. 7, though they secured a 77-73 road win at Incarnate Word on Feb. 12. In the season’s first meeting on Nov. 26, Houston Christian secured a 79-66 victory over New Orleans in New Orleans. A key player to watch for the Privateers is guard Mariah Hart, who is coming off a season-high 15-point performance in 25 minutes in the win at Incarnate Word. Her scoring and playmaking will be vital for a New Orleans offense that has been inconsistent. The Huskies will counter with guard Madison Hurta, who has been a steady contributor. She led Houston Christian with 13 points in 33 minutes in the loss to Nicholls State and has averaged double-digit scoring in recent weeks. Both teams have found conference play challenging. New Orleans has lost eight of its last ten games, while Houston Christian has dropped seven of its last ten. The game represents a critical opportunity for either team to build confidence heading into the final stretch of the regular season. Following this contest, Houston Christian will travel to face Texas A&M-Commerce on Thursday. New Orleans will hit the road to take on Stephen F. Austin next Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026, in Houston.
