Preview: South Dakota State Hosts Missouri-Kansas City in Summit League Women’s Basketball BROOKINGS, S.D. (Interstat) — A stark contrast in conference trajectories will be on display Saturday when the South Dakota State Jackrabbits host the Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos in a Summit League women’s basketball matchup at Frost Arena. The Jackrabbits (19-6 overall), firmly positioned among the league’s elite, enter on a wave of dominance, most recently dismantling North Dakota 94-48 on Thursday. They have won eight of their last nine games, with the lone loss coming on the road against rival South Dakota. Conversely, the Kangaroos (7-18) are mired in a slump, having lost five of their last six contests. They arrive in Brookings following a hard-fought 70-65 overtime loss at South Dakota on Thursday. South Dakota State, which defeated UMKC 76-63 in Kansas City on Jan. 24, is led by standout forward Brooklyn Meyer. She dominated the previous meeting with 25 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Meyer averages 22.4 points per game in her last five outings, including a 31-point performance at North Dakota on Jan. 21. UMKC will rely on guard Tierra Trotter, who is coming off a 20-point, six-assist effort in the overtime loss to South Dakota. In the Jan. 24 loss to the Jackrabbits, Trotter finished with 11 points and seven assists. The Jackrabbits’ offense has been prolific, scoring 85 or more points in four of their last six victories. Their defense has been equally formidable, holding opponents to an average of 48.2 points during their current three-game winning streak. UMKC has struggled offensively during its recent skid, failing to reach 70 points in any of its last five losses. Containing Meyer and navigating the intense environment of Frost Arena, where South Dakota State is 10-1 this season, presents a formidable challenge. Saturday’s game tips off at 2 p.m. CST as part of a full slate of Summit League action.
