HATTIESBURG, Miss. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum for a late-season push will meet Saturday when the Southern Mississippi Lady Eagles host the Texas State Bobcats in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball matchup at Reed Green Coliseum. The contest, set for Feb. 14, 2026, features programs with nearly identical records. Southern Mississippi (12-13) holds a slight edge over Texas State (11-13) in the standings, but the visiting Bobcats arrive with confidence after a 69-63 road victory at South Alabama on Thursday. The Lady Eagles, conversely, are looking to rebound from an 85-62 home loss to Louisiana-Monroe that same night. Texas State will lean on guard Saniya Burks, who is coming off a 21-point performance in the win over South Alabama. Over her last eight games, Burks has averaged 15.3 points, including a 27-point outing against Troy on Jan. 17. Her backcourt scoring will be pivotal for the Bobcats’ offense. Southern Mississippi counters with its own standout guard in Meloney Thames. She leads the Lady Eagles with 18 points in the loss to ULM and has been a consistent scorer, averaging 16.6 points over her last five contests. Thames poured in 25 points in a narrow loss at Toledo on Feb. 7. The teams met earlier this season on Jan. 14 in San Marcos, Texas, where Southern Mississippi secured a 76-62 victory. The Lady Eagles will aim for a regular-season sweep, while the Bobcats seek to avenge that defeat and even the season series. Both squads have struggled for consistency in conference play, making this a critical game for building positive momentum ahead of their respective final stretches. Southern Mississippi holds a 5-7 record at home this season, while Texas State is 3-9 in road games. Following this matchup, Southern Mississippi hits the road to face Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday. Texas State returns home to host Arkansas State on Feb. 18.
