DENTON, Texas (Interstat) — The Tulane Green Wave will look to snap a six-game losing skid when they visit the North Texas Mean Green in an American Athletic Conference women’s basketball matchup Saturday at North Texas Coliseum. Tulane (8-15, 3-9 AAC) enters on a streak of narrow defeats, including a 65-61 home loss to East Carolina on Tuesday and a 47-44 setback against Charlotte on Feb. 4. The Green Wave’s hopes will rest heavily on guard Mecailin Marshall, who is coming off a career-high 34-point performance in 31 minutes against East Carolina. Marshall’s scoring has been volatile, however, following that outburst with games of 7, 4 and 4 points during the current losing streak. North Texas (13-10, 7-5) aims to rebound after a close 70-68 road loss at Rice on Tuesday. The Mean Green had won two straight prior to that defeat. Guard Aysia Proctor has been a consistent offensive threat, averaging 10.3 points per game over her last six contests, including a 19-point effort at Rice. The Mean Green won the season’s first meeting, 59-53, in New Orleans on Jan. 10. North Texas has found more consistent conference success, sitting in the middle of the AAC standings, while Tulane struggles near the bottom. Defense will likely be pivotal. Tulane has been held under 65 points in five of its six consecutive losses. North Texas, which allows an average of 63.2 points per game, will aim to contain Marshall and force other Green Wave players to contribute. For Tulane, slowing Proctor and forward Megan Nestor, who had 14 points against Rice, will be key to ending its prolonged slump. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. CST on Saturday, Feb. 14.
