DAYTON, Ohio (Interstat) — The Dayton Flyers will seek to avenge a recent loss and improve their position in the Atlantic 10 standings when they host the Saint Louis Billikens in a women’s basketball matchup Saturday at University of Dayton Arena. The game is a quick rematch from Jan. 18, when visiting Dayton fell 62-58 to Saint Louis. That result snapped a five-game winning streak for the Flyers (13-12, 7-5 A-10) in the series. The Billikens (11-16, 5-7) will aim for a regular-season sweep. Both teams enter on losing streaks. Dayton has dropped two straight, including a 72-61 home loss to George Mason on Wednesday. Saint Louis has lost six consecutive games since its win over Dayton, most recently a 42-39 defensive struggle against Fordham on Wednesday. A key matchup will feature two of the conference’s top performers. Saint Louis forward Alyssa Koerkenmeier is averaging a double-double over her last five games, including a 16-point, 15-rebound effort against Fordham. She dominated the first meeting with Dayton, posting 12 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks. Dayton will counter with guard Nicole Stephens, who scored 16 points in the loss to George Mason and leads the Flyers in scoring during conference play. She was held to 12 points in the January loss at Saint Louis. The Flyers have been stronger at home this season, going 9-4 at UD Arena. Saint Louis is 3-9 in road games. A Dayton victory would solidify its hold on a top-six conference tournament seeding, while Saint Louis looks to halt its skid and climb back into the middle of the league standings. Saturday’s contest is the only scheduled meeting between the programs this regular season. Following the game, Dayton travels to face Davidson on Feb. 21, while Saint Louis hosts Saint Joseph’s on the same date.
