JERSEY CITY, N.J. (Interstat) ā Two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference womenās basketball teams looking to build momentum will meet Saturday when the Sacred Heart Pioneers visit the Saint Peterās Peacocks at Yanitelli Center. Sacred Heart (11-13) enters the Valentineās Day matinee seeking to halt a three-game skid, most recently a 68-63 overtime loss to Mount Saint Maryās on Feb. 7. The Pioneers have struggled offensively during the slide, averaging just 51 points per game. Saint Peterās (7-17) snapped a two-game losing streak with a gritty 42-40 road win at Rider on Thursday. The Peacocks have shown resilience at home recently, winning two of their last three at Yanitelli Center. A key matchup will feature two of the conferenceās top performers. Sacred Heart is led by versatile forward Amelia Wood, who is coming off a stat-stuffing performance of 15 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three blocks in the overtime loss. Over her last eight games, Wood has averaged 13.0 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocks, showcasing her two-way impact. She will be countered by Saint Peterās guard DeāNaya Rippey, who scored 15 points in the win over Rider. Rippey has been a volume scorer for the Peacocks, posting 26 and 25-point outings in January. Her ability to create offense will be critical against a Sacred Heart defense that allows an average of 62.5 points per game. Historically, the Pioneers have found success in conference play away from home this season, with road wins at Niagara, Canisius and Rider. The Peacocks will rely on their recent home-court form, where they have held opponents to an average of 58.6 points in their last three contests in Jersey City. Sacred Heart holds the better overall record, but both teams sit in the lower half of the MAAC standings, making this a crucial game for seeding ahead of the conference tournament. The Pioneers will look to exploit their interior presence, while Saint Peterās aims to control the tempo behind Rippeyās playmaking. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST on Saturday, Feb. 14.
