PORTLAND, Ore. (Interstat) — A key West Coast Conference women’s basketball rematch is set for Saturday at the Chiles Center as the Portland Pilots host the Santa Clara Broncos. The Pilots (14-10) will look to complete a regular-season sweep after defeating the Broncos 73-66 on the road just one month ago, on Jan. 15. Santa Clara (18-7) enters seeking revenge and aiming to solidify its standing near the top of the conference. The Broncos boast the more impressive overall record but have dropped two of their last three, including a 90-82 road loss at Pacific on Feb. 5. They are led by dynamic guard Ashley Hawkins, who is averaging 18.6 points and 4.8 assists over her last five games. In the recent loss to Pacific, Hawkins posted 18 points and six assists, while teammates Maia Jones (24 points) and Ava Schmidt (19 points) provided significant scoring support. Portland arrives with momentum from a gritty 53-50 home victory over Oregon State on Feb. 7. Guard Florence Dallow led the way with 18 points in that win and has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 14.2 points over her last six outings. The Pilots have shown resilience at home, winning three of their last four at the Chiles Center. The January matchup was defined by defense and timely shooting from Portland, which held Santa Clara’s high-powered offense in check. Containing Hawkins will again be a priority for the Pilots, while Santa Clara must find an answer for Dallow and improve its defensive intensity to flip the result. Saturday’s contest is a critical late-season test for both teams as they jockey for conference tournament positioning. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. PST.
