Preview: South Carolina at LSU Set for SEC Showdown BATON ROUGE, La. (Interstat) — A marquee Southeastern Conference women’s basketball clash will unfold Saturday when the top-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks visit the fifth-ranked LSU Tigers at the Maravich Assembly Center. The matchup (Feb. 14, 2026) features two of the nation’s premier teams, with South Carolina entering at 24-2 overall and LSU at 21-3. Both squads are riding dominant stretches, setting the stage for a potential conference title decider. The Gamecocks, whose only losses this season came in overtime at Oklahoma and against Texas, have won seven straight games by an average margin of 33.7 points. They are coming off a 93-50 rout of Tennessee on Feb. 8, where sophomore forward Joyce Edwards scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Edwards has been a force, averaging 20.4 points over her last seven games, including a 28-point performance in a win at Texas A&M. She anchors a deep South Carolina lineup that includes Madina Okot, who had 15 rebounds against Tennessee, and leading scorer Ta’Niya Latson. LSU, which fell 77-64 at Texas on Feb. 5 for its lone loss in the past month, responded with a 77-44 road win at Auburn. Sophomore guard ZaKiyah Johnson led the Tigers in that victory with 16 points and eight rebounds. Johnson has been consistently productive, posting a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Alabama on Feb. 1. The Tigers’ frontcourt, featuring Amiya Joyner and Mikaylah Williams, provides a formidable challenge. Joyner recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds against Auburn. South Carolina has dominated recent series history, but LSU’s home court, where the Tigers are 11-1 this season, offers a significant advantage. The Gamecocks have not lost a true road game since the Jan. 22 setback at Oklahoma. The outcome will have major implications for seeding in the upcoming SEC and NCAA tournaments. Following this game, South Carolina travels to Alabama on Feb. 19, while LSU visits Mississippi the same day.
