DAVIDSON, N.C. (Interstat) — A surging Richmond team looks to continue its dominance in Atlantic 10 play when the 21-4 Spiders visit Davidson on Saturday. The matchup at Belk Arena is a rematch of a triple-overtime thriller from Jan. 10, which Richmond won 91-84 at home. The Spiders have won nine straight games since, including a 75-52 victory over Saint Bonaventure on Wednesday. Davidson, 15-10 overall, is coming off a 68-58 win over George Washington on Feb. 7. Richmond is powered by forward Maggie Doogan, who is coming off a 23-point, 11-rebound, 7-assist performance against Saint Bonaventure. Over her last six games, Doogan is averaging 18.2 points and 7.2 rebounds, including two double-doubles. She scored 22 points with 10 rebounds in the first meeting against Davidson. The Wildcats counter with guard Charlise Dunn, who exploded for 31 points and six rebounds in the win over George Washington. Dunn averages 17.1 points per game in conference play and scored 21 points with 11 rebounds in the loss at Saint Joseph’s on Feb. 1. She was held to five points in the January loss to Richmond. Davidson’s home court has been a strength, with the Wildcats going 10-3 at Belk Arena this season. They will need that advantage to slow a Richmond offense that has scored 75 or more points in eight of its last nine victories. The Spiders’ defense has also been stifling, holding opponents to 60 points or fewer in five of those wins. With both teams featuring a premier scorer, the game could hinge on secondary contributions. For Richmond, Rachel Ullstrom (21 points vs. Saint Bonaventure) provides a scoring lift. Davidson’s Katie Donovan, who had 11 points and four rebounds last game, offers key support for Dunn. A Richmond win would solidify its hold atop the conference standings, while Davidson seeks a resume-building victory to bolster its postseason prospects. Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon.
