Preview: Providence Friars at Georgetown Hoyas WASHINGTON (Interstat) ā Two Big East womenās basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Saturday when the Providence Friars visit the Georgetown Hoyas at Capital One Arena. Both teams enter the Valentineās Day matchup with identical 5-8 records in conference play. Providence (12-14 overall) has shown recent flashes, winning two of its last three games, including a 73-64 victory over Butler on Wednesday. Georgetown (12-12) looks to snap a four-game losing skid, its most recent a 67-55 defeat at Villanova on Feb. 7. The game will feature a contrast in recent individual performances. Providence is powered by the hot hand of guard Sabou Gueye, who is averaging 19.3 points over her last three contests. She erupted for 29 points and nine rebounds in a win over Xavier on Feb. 8 and followed with 19 points against Butler. Her scoring surge will be central to the Friarsā attack. For Georgetown, forward Brianna Byars has been a consistent presence on the boards despite a scoring slump. She grabbed 12 rebounds in the loss to Villanova but has been held to single-digit points in six consecutive games. The Hoyas will need more offensive production from her to complement a defense that has kept games close during its losing streak. The seasonās first meeting was a thriller, with Providence prevailing 68-61 in overtime at home on Dec. 21. That result adds a layer of urgency for the Hoyas on their home floor. Providence aims to build on its recent wins and climb above .500 in the league. Georgetown, meanwhile, desperately needs a victory to halt its slide and stabilize its record before a tough closing stretch that includes a road game at Connecticut. Tip-off is set for Saturday afternoon in the nationās capital.
