DETROIT (Interstat) — The Fort Wayne Mastodons look to solidify their position in the Horizon League standings when they visit the struggling Detroit Mercy Titans on Saturday at Calihan Hall. Fort Wayne (15-10) enters the matchup having dropped two straight, including a 73-56 loss at Cleveland State on Feb. 7, but remains well above .500. The Titans (5-19) have lost eight of their last nine, most recently a 78-61 home defeat to Wright State on Thursday. The Mastodons dominated the first meeting this season, routing Detroit 95-66 at home on Feb. 1. Fort Wayne’s Hillary Offing had six points and four rebounds in 11 minutes during that victory. Offing is coming off a career-high 21-point performance in the loss to Cleveland State, establishing herself as a key offensive threat. Detroit will rely on forward Jasmine Edwards, who is amid a strong individual stretch. She scored 22 points against Wright State and recorded a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds in a road win over Oakland on Feb. 7. Containing Edwards will be a primary focus for the Mastodons’ defense. Fort Wayne’s recent skid follows a five-game winning streak that included the decisive victory over Detroit. The Titans’ only win in the past month was the 72-69 triumph at Oakland. The Mastodons have shown a potent offense, scoring 80 or more points four times in their last ten games. Detroit has surpassed 70 points only three times in that same span and will need a significant defensive improvement to slow Fort Wayne’s attack. Saturday’s game is the second of a three-game road swing for Fort Wayne. Detroit continues a four-game homestand, seeking its first home victory since Jan. 5. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. EST on Feb. 14 at Calihan Hall.
