LYNCHBURG, Va. (Interstat) — The Liberty Lady Flames will look to build on a recent home victory when they host the New Mexico State Aggies in a Conference USA women’s basketball matchup Saturday at Vines Center. Liberty (12-11) enters the contest coming off a 58-48 win over UTEP on Thursday, powered by a double-double from forward Emmy Stout. The Lady Flames have been stronger at home, where they hold a 7-4 record this season. New Mexico State (8-16) seeks to end a two-game skid after a narrow 65-62 road loss at Delaware on Thursday. The Aggies are 2-9 in road games and have lost five of their last seven contests overall. The game features a key rematch from Jan. 2, when Liberty secured a 67-62 victory in Las Cruces. Stout was instrumental in that win and enters Saturday’s game in strong form, averaging 13.5 points and 7.4 rebounds over her last eight games. She is coming off a 16-point, 10-rebound performance against UTEP. The Aggies will rely on guard Lucia Yenes, who is averaging 15.0 points over her last four games. She scored 18 points in both the first meeting against Liberty and the most recent loss to Delaware. Liberty’s defense, which held UTEP to 48 points, will be tested by Yenes and an Aggies offense that has struggled with consistency, failing to reach 60 points in nine games this season. New Mexico State’s defense allows an average of 68.2 points per game. With the Conference USA tournament approaching, both teams are jockeying for seeding. Liberty aims to stay above .500, while New Mexico State looks to gain momentum and improve its standing in the league.
