SAN ANTONIO (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum in the tightly packed Southland Conference standings will meet Saturday when the Nicholls State Colonels visit the Incarnate Word Cardinals in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball matchup. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. CST tipoff at the McDermott Convocation Center. Both teams enter with nearly identical records. Nicholls State sits at 11-11 overall, while Incarnate Word is 10-12. The contest represents a key opportunity for either squad to climb above .500 as the regular season enters its final stretch. The Colonels are coming off a dominant 69-42 home victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last Saturday, where Marie Kenembeni scored 19 points and grabbed five rebounds. Kenembeni has been a consistent offensive force for Nicholls, averaging 17.4 points over her last five games where she played more than 20 minutes. Sh’Diamond McKnight led all scorers in that win with 22 points. Incarnate Word looks to rebound from a 75-54 road loss to McNeese State on Feb. 7. In that game, Jorja Elliott posted 12 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Elliott has been the Cardinals’ standout, recording a double-double (20 points, 10 rebounds) in an overtime loss to Texas-Rio Grande Valley on Jan. 31 and scoring 24 points in a narrow defeat at Corpus Christi on Jan. 29. History adds an extra layer to the matchup. The two teams last met on Dec. 16, 2025, in Thibodaux, Louisiana, where Incarnate Word edged Nicholls State 54-52. Saturday’s game will be the first meeting in San Antonio this season. Following this game, Nicholls State will travel to face Lamar on Feb. 19. Incarnate Word hits the road for a game at Northwestern State on the same date.
