Preview: Morgan State Bears at South Carolina State Bulldogs ORANGEBURG, S.C. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to halt extended slides will meet Saturday when the Morgan State Bears visit the South Carolina State Bulldogs in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women’s basketball matchup. The game at SHM Memorial Center features programs with a combined 8-40 overall record. South Carolina State (5-18) has lost five consecutive games, while Morgan State (3-22) has dropped six of its last seven. The Bulldogs will look to complete a season sweep after edging the Bears 62-59 in Baltimore on Jan. 10. In that contest, South Carolina State overcame a 10-point halftime deficit. Morgan State arrives following a heartbreaking 66-63 overtime loss at North Carolina Central on Thursday. Guard Tiyanna James led the Bears with 23 points in that defeat, continuing her role as the team’s primary offensive threat. James is averaging 10.4 points over her last seven games, including a 23-point outburst against N.C. Central. South Carolina State is coming off a 72-39 home loss to Coppin State on Thursday, a game in which the Bulldogs shot just 23.2% from the field. Forward Ja’Siiyah Holmes, a defensive presence, blocked three shots in that contest and has 10 blocks over her last five appearances. Both teams have struggled offensively this season. Morgan State averages 56.2 points per game, ranking near the bottom of Division I, while South Carolina State scores at a 50.7-point clip, among the nation’s lowest. The matchup may hinge on which team can find consistent scoring outside its top options. For Morgan State, Michaela Bogans, who had 10 points and five assists Thursday, provides secondary support. South Carolina State will need production beyond Holmes, potentially from guards like Janiah Hinton. With the MEAC tournament approaching, Saturday’s game offers a critical opportunity for either squad to build momentum and escape the conference cellar. Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026, in Orangeburg.
