Preview: Lamar Looks to Rebound Against Struggling Islanders CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (Interstat) β The Lamar Lady Cardinals aim to bounce back from a tough loss when they visit the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders in a womenβs NCAA Division I basketball game Saturday at American Bank Center. Lamar (14-9) enters the contest after a 75-53 road loss to Texas-Rio Grande Valley on Thursday. The Lady Cardinals had won five of their previous seven games prior to that defeat. Shaila Forman led Lamar with 15 points in the loss, continuing a stretch of solid play. Over her last eight games, Forman is averaging 8.8 points, including a 12-point, 6-rebound effort in a Jan. 31 game against McNeese State. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (4-19) seeks to end a four-game skid, most recently a 93-51 home loss to Stephen F. Austin on Thursday. Torie Sevier has been a bright spot for the Islanders, scoring 17 points in that contest and averaging 10.1 points over her last eight appearances. She poured in a season-high 20 points in a loss at Incarnate Word on Jan. 24. The teams met earlier this season on Dec. 15, 2025, with Lamar securing a decisive 77-49 home victory. The Lady Cardinals have relied on a balanced attack, with Kamryn Wilson (12 points) and Forman leading the way in their most recent outing. For the Islanders, consistency has been elusive. Beyond Sevier, Chelsea Wooten (12 points) and Trinity Slocum (9 points, 4 assists) provided support against Stephen F. Austin, but the team has struggled defensively, allowing an average of 73.6 points during its current losing streak. Lamar will look to control the tempo and leverage its superior record, while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi hopes to find a defensive rhythm and capitalize on home court to spring an upset. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. CST tip-off on Saturday, February 14, 2026.
