NORFOLK, Va. (Interstat) â A surging James Madison womenâs basketball team looks to continue its climb when it visits Old Dominion in a key Sun Belt Conference matchup Saturday at Constant Convocation Center. The Dukes (19-8) have won seven of their last eight games, including a 60-53 road victory at Appalachian State on Wednesday. Guard Ashanti Barnes has been instrumental in the run, averaging 15.4 points over her last seven contests. She scored 15 points with four assists in the most recent win. Old Dominion (15-11) seeks to rebound after a 69-62 home loss to Coastal Carolina on Wednesday. The Lady Monarchs have alternated wins and losses over their past six games. They will lean on guard EnâDya Buford, who is coming off a 26-point, 8-rebound performance in a win at Ohio on Feb. 7 and leads the team in scoring during conference play. James Madisonâs offense has been potent during its streak, averaging 76.6 points in its last five wins. Beyond Barnes, Peyton McDaniel (13 points) and Grace McDonough (14 points) provided scoring support against Appalachian State. Old Dominionâs path to victory likely requires containing that balance while jump-starting its own offense, which was held to 62 points in its last outing. Simaru Fields, who had 14 points off the bench Wednesday, provides a secondary scoring option behind Buford. The game is the first of a home-and-home series between the rivals this month. They will meet again in Harrisonburg on Feb. 25. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. EST on Saturday, Feb. 14.
