NORFOLK, Va. (Interstat) — The Norfolk State Spartans look to continue their push toward a winning season when they host the struggling Delaware State Hornets in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women’s basketball matchup Saturday at Echols Hall. Norfolk State (12-12, 7-2 MEAC) enters on a three-game winning streak, most recently a 57-51 road victory at Maryland-Eastern Shore on Thursday. The Spartans have found consistency in conference play, winning seven of their last nine league games. Delaware State (4-20, 2-7) seeks to end a five-game skid, including a 68-51 home loss to Howard on Thursday. The Hornets have struggled offensively, failing to reach 60 points in eight of their last nine contests. A key matchup will feature two of the conference’s top guards. Norfolk State is led by Anjanae Richardson, who is averaging 17.3 points over her last three games, including a 19-point performance Thursday. For Delaware State, Amya Scott has been a bright spot, scoring 16 points in each of her last two outings. The Spartans won the first meeting this season, 69-53, in Dover on Jan. 10. Norfolk State has dominated the recent series, winning the last eight head-to-head matchups. With the MEAC tournament approaching, Norfolk State aims to solidify its standing in the upper tier of the conference. A win would guarantee the Spartans a winning record in MEAC play. Delaware State, meanwhile, is fighting to improve its seeding and gain momentum in the season’s final weeks. Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon. Norfolk State will host South Carolina State next Saturday, while Delaware State travels to Morgan State.
