BOSTON (Interstat) — A surging College of Charleston women’s basketball team, boasting one of the nation’s top records, visits struggling Northeastern in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup Friday night at Matthews Arena. The Cougars (19-3, 10-1 CAA) enter on an 11-game winning streak and sit atop the conference standings. Their dominant run includes a commanding 85-58 victory over these same Huskies just over a month ago on Jan. 4. Charleston is coming off an 81-61 win over UNC Wilmington last Friday, where Taryn Barbot (13 points, 7 assists) and Taylor Barbot (11 points, 7 assists) facilitated the offense. A key force for Charleston is forward Grace Ezebilo, who is coming off a 15-point performance against UNCW. Her most dominant outing recently was a 24-rebound effort in a win at Campbell on Feb. 3. Northeastern (6-15, 3-8) looks to halt a five-game skid and pull a major upset on its home floor. The Huskies fell 63-55 at Towson last Sunday, despite 16 points from guard Yirsy QuĂ©liz. QuĂ©liz has been a consistent scorer, averaging 12.3 points over her last six games and will be central to any Huskies’ offensive resurgence. The contrast between the teams is stark. Charleston ranks among the CAA leaders in both offensive and defensive efficiency during conference play, while Northeastern has struggled to find consistent scoring, averaging just 57.6 points per game in league contests. Friday’s game tips off at 7 p.m. Eastern. Following this contest, Charleston travels to face Monmouth on Sunday, while Northeastern hosts first-place Stony Brook.
