Preview: Utah Tech at Utah Valley Women’s Basketball VINEYARD, Utah (Interstat) — Intrastate Western Athletic Conference rivals Utah Tech and Utah Valley meet Thursday night at UCCU Center, with both teams seeking momentum in the season’s final stretch. The Utah Valley Wolverines (9-12, 3-7 WAC) host the Utah Tech Trailblazers (6-15, 2-8 WAC) in a rematch of a Jan. 10 contest won by the Trailblazers, 65-54, in St. George. That result snapped a three-game winning streak for the Wolverines in the series. Utah Tech enters on a seven-game skid but is coming off a strong offensive performance in a double-overtime road loss. The Trailblazers fell 84-78 at Texas-Arlington on Feb. 5, led by Brie Crittendon’s 23 points and Kaylee Borden’s 19. Point guard Chardonnay Hartley, a key player to watch, logged 47 minutes in that game, finishing with 12 points and nine assists. Over her last seven games, Hartley is averaging 7.3 points and 5.6 assists. Utah Valley looks to rebound from a heartbreaking 60-59 overtime loss at Texas-Arlington on Feb. 7. The Wolverines have lost five of their last six. Guard Cambree Blackham is their focal point, coming off a 19-point, four-rebound effort in that defeat. In her last six outings, Blackham has averaged 11.5 points and 4.2 assists. The Wolverines hold a slight edge in the overall season record, but both teams have struggled in conference play. Utah Valley’s offense averages 62.2 points per game, while Utah Tech scores at a 58.2-point clip. Defense may dictate the tempo, as both teams allow over 67 points per contest. Thursday’s game is the first of two scheduled meetings between the programs in the final month of the regular season. They are slated to meet again at UCCU Center on March 7. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. MST.
