HOUSTON (Interstat) — The Southern Lady Jaguars and Texas Southern Lady Tigers, two teams seeking momentum in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, will meet Thursday night at the Health & P.E. Arena. Southern (11-11 overall) enters on a two-game skid, including a narrow 56-54 home loss to Alabama A&M on Feb. 7. The Lady Jaguars had won five of their previous six before the recent setbacks. Texas Southern (9-14) has lost three straight, most recently an 86-73 defeat at Florida A&M on Feb. 7. The teams last met on Jan. 3 in Baton Rouge, where Southern dominated in a 64-45 victory. A key matchup will feature Southern’s Jestiny Dixon against Texas Southern’s high-scoring Taliyah Logwood. Dixon, coming off a 10-point effort against Alabama A&M, provides steady backcourt play. Logwood has been on an offensive tear, averaging 23 points over her last two games, including a 25-point performance at Florida A&M. Southern’s recent success has been built on defense, holding opponents under 65 points in four of their last five wins. Texas Southern has shown offensive firepower but has struggled with consistency, alternating wins and losses over its past eight games. The game tips off at 5:30 p.m. CST in Houston.
