Preview: Northern Arizona at Portland State Women’s Basketball PORTLAND, Ore. (Interstat) — Two Big Sky Conference teams seeking momentum will meet Thursday when the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks visit the Portland State Vikings at Stott Center. Northern Arizona (8-17) enters on the heels of a 73-65 home victory over Weber State last Saturday, which snapped a five-game losing streak. Portland State (6-17) also broke a skid its last time out, edging Sacramento State 64-62 for its first win since Jan. 1. The matchup features two of the league’s top individual scorers. Northern Arizona is led by guard Naomi White, who is averaging 21.6 points in conference play. She erupted for 31 points in the win over Weber State and scored 29 in a narrow loss at Montana last month. In the teams’ first meeting on Jan. 17, a 80-68 Lumberjacks win in Flagstaff, White posted 15 points and six rebounds. Portland State will counter with forward Hannah Chicken, who is coming off one of her best performances of the season. She tallied 22 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two blocks in the victory over Sacramento State. In the loss at Northern Arizona, she finished with 16 points and six rebounds. Both teams have struggled defensively this season. Northern Arizona allows 74.2 points per game in Big Sky play, while Portland State surrenders a conference-worst 77.6 points per game in league contests. The Lumberjacks’ offense, fueled by White and supported by Madison Watts (15 points vs. Weber State), will test a Vikings defense that has allowed 80 or more points nine times this season. The game is the start of a crucial final stretch for both squads as they jockey for seeding in the upcoming Big Sky tournament. Following this contest, Northern Arizona travels to Sacramento State on Saturday. Portland State remains at home to host Northern Colorado on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST Thursday at Stott Center.
