DURHAM, N.C. (Interstat) — A pair of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Thursday when the North Carolina Central Eagles host the Morgan State Bears at McLendon-McDougald Gymnasium. The Eagles (6-15 overall) enter on a modest uptick, having won three of their last four games. Their recent success has been fueled by forward Aniya Finger, who is coming off a dominant stretch. Finger posted consecutive double-doubles in conference play, including a 30-point performance in a win over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Feb. 2, followed by 16 points and 10 rebounds in Monday’s 58-44 victory over Delaware State. Morgan State (3-21) looks to snap a four-game skid and replicate its earlier result against NCCU. The Bears edged the Eagles 64-63 in Baltimore on Jan. 8, which stands as one of their three wins this season. Since that victory, Morgan State has lost 10 of 11 games, including a 53-66 home loss to Maryland-Eastern Shore on Feb. 7. A key player for the Bears is guard Michaela Bogans, who logged 25 minutes and contributed 7 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists in the most recent loss. Morgan State will need a stronger defensive effort after allowing opponents to score 69 points or more in six of their last seven defeats. North Carolina Central has found a rhythm at home, winning its last two at McLendon-McDougald by an average of 15.5 points. Finger’s interior presence, alongside guard Natalie Jasper who scored 13 points Monday, provides a potent scoring combo. Conversely, Morgan State has struggled on the road, going 1-12 away from Baltimore this season. Containing Finger and improving offensive efficiency will be critical if the Bears hope to secure a season sweep. Thursday’s contest is the first of a two-game homestand for NCCU, which hosts Coppin State on Saturday. Morgan State continues its road trip before returning home to face Delaware State on Feb. 21.
