KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) ā Two Southeastern Conference womenās basketball teams looking to rebound from weekend blowout losses will meet Thursday when the Missouri Tigers visit the Tennessee Lady Volunteers at Thompson-Boling Arena. Missouri (16-10, 5-6 SEC) arrives after an 85-66 home defeat to Georgia on Sunday. Tennessee (15-6, 6-4) is coming off a 93-50 road loss to top-ranked South Carolina the same day. Both squads will seek to regain momentum in a pivotal late-season conference matchup. The Tigersā fortunes often hinge on the play of guard Shannon Dowell. The standout junior is averaging 19.3 points over her last six games, including a 25-point performance in a win at Arkansas on Feb. 5. However, she was held to four points in a Jan. 25 victory over Texas A&M, illustrating the variability Missouri must stabilize. Tennessee counters with its own dynamic guard in Talaysia Cooper. The senior is coming off a 17-point, 5-rebound, 5-assist effort in the loss to South Carolina and has scored in double figures in five of her last seven outings. Her ability to facilitate and score will be key against a Missouri defense that has allowed 80 or more points in four of its last seven games. The Lady Volunteers hold a distinct home-court advantage, having gone 9-2 at Thompson-Boling this season. Missouri is 4-5 in true road games. Tennesseeās defense, which ranks among the SECās best, will aim to contain Dowell and a Tiger offense that shoots just 41.8% from the field. Historically, Tennessee has dominated the series, winning 12 of the last 13 meetings. Missouriās last win in Knoxville came in 2017. Following this contest, Tennessee will host Texas on Sunday, while Missouri returns home to face Auburn on Feb. 19. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Thursday.
