Preview: Merrimack Warriors at Marist Red Foxes POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Interstat) ā A tight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rematch is set for Thursday when the Merrimack Warriors visit the Marist Red Foxes in womenās basketball. The Warriors (13-10) arrive with momentum, having won four of their last five, including a dominant 73-37 victory over Rider on Saturday. The Red Foxes (10-15) are looking to build on a narrow 56-53 home win against Saint Peterās that snapped a two-game skid. This matchup is a quick turnaround from a classic played just over a month ago. On Jan. 8 in North Andover, Merrimack edged Marist 59-57 in overtime. That result will likely be fresh in both teamsā minds as they meet again at McCann Recreation Center. Merrimack is led by standout forward Madison Roman, who is coming off a commanding 15-rebound, 11-point performance against Rider. Over her last eight games, Roman has recorded four double-doubles, showcasing consistent production on both ends of the floor. Her ability to control the glass will be a key factor. Marist will counter with forward Justine Henry, who is also in strong form. Henry posted a 21-point, 10-rebound double-double in the win over Saint Peterās, her second in the last four games. Her scoring versatility will be crucial for a Red Foxes offense that has struggled at times, most notably in a 109-48 loss at Fairfield on Feb. 5. The Warriors have found a rhythm in conference play, averaging 73.8 points in their last four wins. Maristās defense, which allows an average of 63.2 points per game, will be tested. Conversely, the Red Foxes must solve a Merrimack defense that has held opponents to 47 and 37 points in its last two victories. With both teams jockeying for position in the MAAC standings ahead of the final stretch, this contest carries significant weight. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Feb. 12.
