OGDEN, Utah (Interstat) — A surging Idaho Vandals squad, riding a seven-game winning streak, visits the struggling Weber State Wildcats in a Big Sky Conference women’s basketball matchup Thursday night at the Dee Events Center. The Vandals (19-5, 10-1 Big Sky) have established themselves as a conference powerhouse, boasting the league’s best record. Their last loss came on Jan. 10. They enter this contest fresh off a dominant 89-65 victory over Montana on Saturday, where their offense was firing on all cylinders. Idaho is led by dynamic guard Hope Hassmann, who is averaging 16.4 points and 6.1 assists over her last eight games. In the first meeting against Weber State this season, a 95-76 Idaho win on Jan. 17, Hassmann contributed 14 points in just 23 minutes. Her playmaking will be central to the Vandals’ attack. Weber State (7-16, 3-9) seeks to halt a two-game skid and improve its standing near the bottom of the conference. The Wildcats’ last win was a 72-64 home victory over Sacramento State on Feb. 2. They are 4-7 at home this season. The Wildcats will look to forward Hannah Robbins to provide a spark. Robbins scored 16 points and blocked three shots in their most recent outing, a 73-65 loss at Northern Arizona. She had 11 points and four rebounds in the January loss at Idaho. For Weber State to pull an upset, it must find a way to slow Idaho’s high-powered offense, which has averaged 80.6 points during its current win streak. The Vandals have won nine of their last ten games and appear poised for a deep conference tournament run. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. MST Thursday. Idaho visits Idaho State on Saturday, while Weber State hosts Eastern Washington.
