Gonzaga Looks to Continue Surge at Struggling San Diego SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — The Gonzaga Bulldogs, riding a five-game winning streak, visit the Jenny Craig Pavilion on Thursday to face a San Diego Toreros team searching for consistency in West Coast Conference women’s basketball. The Bulldogs (18-7, 8-2 WCC) have been dominant during their streak, winning by an average margin of 22.2 points. They are coming off a 72-44 rout of Pacific on Feb. 7, where forward Jaiden Haile posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds in just 21 minutes. Haile has been a key contributor, averaging 9.3 points and 5.9 rebounds over her last seven games. Gonzaga previously handled San Diego with ease this season, earning an 87-42 victory in Spokane on Jan. 17. In that game, the Bulldogs held the Toreros to 25.9% shooting from the field. San Diego (9-17, 3-7) snapped a three-game skid with a 71-54 home win over Seattle on Feb. 7. Forward Eva Ruse led the way with 20 points and three blocks, while guard Olivia Owens added 20 points and seven assists. Ruse has shown flashes, including a 12-point, 12-rebound performance in a win over Loyola Marymount on Jan. 24, but the Toreros have struggled to find sustained success. The Toreros’ defense, allowing an average of 66.2 points per game in conference play, will be tested by a balanced Gonzaga offense that has scored 74 or more points in four of its last five outings. Thursday’s contest is the first of a two-game road trip for Gonzaga, which visits Loyola Marymount on Saturday. San Diego begins a two-game road swing of its own next week at Pepperdine. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST.
