JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Interstat) — Two ASUN women’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Thursday when the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles visit the North Florida Ospreys at UNF Arena. The Eagles (11-12) enter the contest after a 70-81 home loss to Jacksonville on Saturday, despite a strong performance from Sinai Douglas. The junior guard nearly posted a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds, adding four assists. Douglas has been a consistent force, averaging 12.1 points per game over her last eight contests, including a 17-point, six-assist effort in a win at Central Arkansas on Jan. 29. North Florida (8-15) is also looking to rebound from a home loss, falling 68-75 to West Georgia on Saturday. Freshman guard Dezuray McGill led the Ospreys in that game with 18 points and six rebounds off the bench. McGill has shown flashes of high scoring potential, including a 27-point outburst against Central Arkansas on Jan. 17. The matchup features two of the conference’s emerging backcourt talents in Douglas and McGill. Their play could be pivotal in a game between teams with nearly identical recent struggles; both squads have lost four of their last six games. Florida Gulf Coast holds the better overall record but has struggled on the road in conference play. North Florida will aim to protect its home court, where it last won on Jan. 29 against Austin Peay. Historically, the Eagles have dominated the series, winning the last 15 meetings. The teams will conclude their regular-season series in Fort Myers on Feb. 25. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST on Thursday, Feb. 12.
