POCATELLO, Idaho (Interstat) — A key Big Sky Conference women’s basketball rematch is set for Thursday night as the Idaho State Bengals host the Eastern Washington Eagles at Holt Arena. Idaho State (16-7, 8-3 Big Sky), riding a five-game winning streak, looks to solidify its standing near the top of the conference. Eastern Washington (12-12, 6-6) aims to split the season series and climb back to .500 in league play. The Bengals won the first meeting 66-57 in Cheney on Jan. 17. The matchup features two of the conference’s top guards. Eastern Washington’s Ella Gallatin has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 17.1 points over her last eight games. She scored 22 in the loss to Idaho State last month. For the Bengals, Kacey Spink is coming off a 20-point, 5-rebound, 4-assist performance in a road win at Northern Colorado last Saturday. She leads a balanced Idaho State attack that has found its rhythm in February. The Eagles have struggled with consistency, alternating wins and losses in their last six outings. They are coming off a narrow 71-69 home loss to Montana State on Feb. 7, despite 18 points from Gallatin. Idaho State’s current streak includes four road victories, showcasing their resilience away from Pocatello. Defense will likely be pivotal. Idaho State held Eastern Washington to 57 points in January and ranks among the league’s best defensive units. The Eagles must find more offensive support for Gallatin to challenge a Bengals team that has won eight of its last ten. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST Thursday. The game continues a crucial stretch for both teams vying for positioning ahead of the Big Sky tournament.
