HONOLULU (Interstat) — The Hawaii women’s basketball team looks to solidify its position in the Big West Conference standings Thursday when it hosts Cal State Bakersfield at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Warriors (12-10 overall) have won five of their last seven games and sit above .500, while the visiting Roadrunners (7-16) seek to end a four-game skid. Tipoff is set for 9 p.m. local time. Hawaii defeated Cal State Bakersfield 64-52 on the road just three weeks ago, on Jan. 22. In that contest, Warriors guard Bailey Flavell scored 22 points, showcasing the offensive punch she has provided throughout conference play. Flavell is averaging 16.3 points over her last four games, including an 18-point performance in a loss to UC San Diego last Saturday. The Roadrunners, however, are coming off a resilient double-overtime performance in a 92-87 loss to Cal State Fullerton last weekend. Guard Chrishawn Coleman led that effort with 22 points and has been a consistent scorer, averaging over 20 points in three of her last five outings. Coleman scored 12 points in the first meeting with Hawaii. Hawaii has relied on a stout defense during its recent successful stretch, holding opponents under 55 points in four of its last five victories. Containing Coleman will be a primary focus. The Warriors have found balance, with players like Saniyah Neverson and Imani Perez providing key contributions alongside Flavell. Cal State Bakersfield’s struggles have largely come on the road, where they have lost eight straight games. Overcoming Hawaii’s home-court advantage, where the Warriors are 7-3 this season, presents a significant challenge. A win would help Hawaii maintain momentum ahead of a quick turnaround against Cal State Northridge on Saturday. Cal State Bakersfield continues a difficult road swing, searching for its first conference road win to build confidence before returning home next week.
