Preview: UCF Knights at West Virginia Mountaineers STAR CITY, W.Va. (Interstat) — The West Virginia women’s basketball team, riding high in the Big 12 Conference, will host a struggling UCF squad on Wednesday night at WVU Coliseum. The Mountaineers (20-5, 9-3 Big 12) have won seven of their last eight games, including an 87-68 rout of Arizona last Saturday. They are led by dynamic guard Jordan Harrison, who has scored in double figures in eight consecutive games. Harrison averaged 17.1 points and 4.6 assists during that stretch, providing consistent offensive leadership for one of the league’s top teams. West Virginia’s balanced attack also features forward Kierra Wheeler, who had 17 points and six rebounds against Arizona, and guard Sydney Shaw, who added 16 points. UCF (10-13, 3-9) arrives mired in a five-game losing streak, most recently an 81-58 defeat at Oklahoma State. The Knights have struggled offensively during the skid, failing to reach 60 points in four of those losses. The Knights will rely heavily on forward Mahogany Chandler-Roberts, who is coming off a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds against the Cowgirls. Chandler-Roberts has been a bright spot, averaging 12.3 points and 6.5 rebounds over her last four contests. This matchup pits one of the conference’s most potent offenses against one of its most challenged. West Virginia averages 71.2 points per game in Big 12 play, while UCF scores a league-low 57.8 points per conference contest. The game will be the first of two regular-season meetings between the programs this month. They are scheduled to meet again in Orlando on Feb. 25. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday.
