Preview: Radford Looks to Sweep Season Series at UNC Asheville ASHEVILLE, N.C. (Interstat) — The Radford women’s basketball team aims to solidify its position in the Big South Conference standings when it visits UNC Asheville on Wednesday night at Kimmel Arena. The Highlanders (16-10) enter the matchup with momentum, having won five of their last six games, including a 72-57 victory over High Point last Saturday. They previously defeated the Bulldogs (9-15) 64-52 at home on Jan. 23. Radford is led by forward Georgia Simonsen, who is averaging 16.1 points over her last seven games. She scored 19 points with seven rebounds and three blocks in the win over High Point. In the first meeting against UNC Asheville, Simonsen contributed 10 points and three assists. The Bulldogs, who have lost three of their last four, will counter with guard Nia Green. She scored a game-high 24 points in the loss at Radford last month and is coming off a 20-point, nine-rebound performance in a 72-60 loss at Longwood on Saturday. Jamaria Freeman added a double-double with 14 points and 10 assists in that contest. Radford’s recent success has been built on defense, holding opponents to an average of 54.2 points during its 5-1 stretch. UNC Asheville has struggled offensively at times, scoring 60 or fewer points in four of its last six games. The Highlanders have dominated the recent series, winning the last four meetings. A win would give them a season sweep and improve their conference record as they push for postseason positioning. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday. Following this game, UNC Asheville travels to face South Carolina Upstate on Saturday, while Radford hosts South Carolina Upstate on Feb. 18.
