Preview: Omaha Mavericks at Denver Pioneers DENVER (Interstat) ā Two Summit League womenās basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Wednesday when the Denver Pioneers host the Omaha Mavericks at Magness Arena. The Pioneers (9-15 overall) enter as heavy favorites, projected with a 77.80% probability to win by National Statisticalās ELO system. Denver has struggled recently, however, dropping four consecutive games, including a 60-56 home loss to Saint Thomas (Minn.) on Feb. 7. Denver will look to sophomore guard Jocelyn Medina to reverse its fortunes. Medina is coming off a 13-point performance against Saint Thomas and had a standout game on Jan. 24, recording 16 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists in a win over Oral Roberts. Her versatility will be key against a vulnerable Omaha defense. The visiting Mavericks (3-23) are enduring a difficult season and are reeling from a 102-51 drubbing by North Dakota State on Saturday. Omahaās defense has been a persistent issue, allowing an average of 75.2 points per game during its current 1-6 stretch. A bright spot for Omaha has been the play of guard Regan Juenemann. She scored a team-high 14 points in the loss to NDSU and poured in 27 points in a narrow 60-59 loss to Missouri-Kansas City on Jan. 31. Her scoring ability will be essential for the Mavericks to keep pace. While Denver holds a clear advantage in both record and projection, consistency has been elusive. The Pioneersā last win was an 86-74 victory over Oral Roberts on Jan. 24. Omaha, meanwhile, will try to build on one of its few highlights this seasonāa 58-54 home win over North Dakota on Feb. 5. The game is the first of a regular-season home-and-home series. The teams will meet again in Omaha on Feb. 28. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST Wednesday at Magness Arena in Denver.
