CARROLLTON, Ga. (Interstat) — A surging North Alabama women’s basketball team aims to continue its climb in the ASUN Conference standings when it visits West Georgia on Wednesday night at The Coliseum. The Lions (12-10) have won five of their last six games, including a 71-55 road victory at Queens (N.C.) last Saturday. They are led by guard Alexsandra Alvarado, who is averaging 21.4 points over her last seven contests. She scored 23 points with four rebounds and four assists in the win over Queens. West Georgia (15-8), however, presents a significant hurdle on its home floor. The Wolves are 9-2 at home this season and are coming off a 75-68 win at North Florida. Forward Destiny Jones posted a double-double in that victory with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Jones has been a key interior presence, recording double-doubles in two of her last five games. The matchup features contrasting styles. North Alabama relies heavily on Alvarado’s dynamic scoring and playmaking, supported by recent contributions from India Howard (18 points vs. Queens) and Jazzy Klinge. West Georgia utilizes a more balanced attack; in their last win, Sydne Tolbert scored 18 points and Grace O’Gara added 12. Historically, this is the first meeting between the programs as ASUN opponents. West Georgia holds the superior overall record, but North Alabama enters with momentum. A win would bolster the Lions’ position ahead of a rematch between the two teams in Florence, Alabama, on Feb. 27. Wednesday’s contest tips off at 7 p.m. EST and is part of a full slate of ASUN conference play.
