Preview: Lafayette at Loyola Maryland (Women’s Basketball) BALTIMORE (Interstat) — Two Patriot League women’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Wednesday when the Loyola Maryland Greyhounds host the Lafayette Leopards at Reitz Arena. Loyola Maryland (10-13) enters on the heels of a defensive 49-40 victory over Boston University on Saturday. The Greyhounds have shown resilience, alternating wins and losses over their last five contests. Guard Kimmie Hicks, coming off a 10-point, three-rebound, three-assist performance against BU, provides a scoring spark. She averaged 12.8 points over a recent four-game stretch. The visiting Leopards (8-15) look to snap a five-game skid, most recently a 50-62 home loss to Army on Saturday. Lafayette’s struggles have been marked by offensive inconsistency, failing to reach 50 points in three of those five defeats. A key matchup will feature Lafayette’s Maddison Krug against Loyola Maryland’s interior defense. Krug, a consistent presence on the boards, has recorded at least eight rebounds in four of her last six games, including a 14-rebound double-double against Boston University on Jan. 21. Her shot-blocking (two blocks in three of the last six games) will challenge the Greyhounds’ penetration. The teams’ first meeting this season saw Lafayette prevail 63-52 at home on Jan. 3. The Leopards will aim to replicate that success and complete a season sweep, while the Greyhounds seek revenge on their home court. Loyola Maryland holds a slight edge in the conference standings, but both teams remain in the mix for Patriot League tournament positioning. Lafayette will rely on Krug and Haylie Adamski, who scored 11 points against Army, to ignite its offense. Loyola Maryland will counter with Hicks and forward Lex Therien, who leads the team in rebounding. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday in Baltimore.
