Preview: Holy Cross Looks to Sweep Season Series at Struggling Colgate HAMILTON, N.Y. (Interstat) — The Holy Cross women’s basketball team aims to solidify its standing in the Patriot League when it visits Colgate on Wednesday night at Cotterell Court. The Crusaders (14-9) enter with a firm upper hand, having defeated the Raiders (6-16) 60-50 in overtime just two weeks ago in Worcester. That Jan. 28 victory is part of a 5-2 stretch for Holy Cross, which sits near the top of the conference standings. Holy Cross is led by guard Kaitlyn Flanagan, who torched Colgate for 17 points in the first meeting. She is averaging 12.1 points and 4.6 assists over her last seven games, including a 14-point effort in a 73-61 loss at Lehigh on Saturday. Meg Cahalan, who scored 18 against Lehigh, provides additional scoring punch. Colgate seeks to end a three-game skid and gain revenge on its home floor. The Raiders are coming off a 50-41 home loss to Bucknell where offensive struggles persisted. Forward Grace Klag will be key; she grabbed 10 rebounds against Bucknell and posted 14 points in a narrow loss to Boston University on Jan. 24. Her interior presence against Holy Cross’s defense will be critical. The Raiders’ only win in their last nine games was a 68-66 victory over Lehigh on Jan. 31. Defense has been an issue, as Colgate has allowed 59 points or more in five of its last six contests. Holy Cross has shown balance, with recent wins fueled by defense, holding opponents under 50 points three times in the past month. Another strong defensive effort could overwhelm a Colgate team averaging just 49.4 points over its last five games. Wednesday’s contest is the second of two regular-season matchups. Following this game, Holy Cross hosts Loyola Maryland on Saturday, while Colgate travels to Navy. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. EST.
